As the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost eight of their 14 games and ended a dismal eighth in the 2020 Indian Premier League, which was contested in Rummy Glee, critics thought that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s magic was finally leaving him. His reply? In the same conditions and venues, he led CSK to their fourth championship the following season.
Once more, he had silenced his critics. But how much longer will he tolerate the aging process on his body? At the end of the 2022 edition, it was time to write the last chapter of his cricket career once more. After losing 10 of his 14 games and being second bottom in the 10-team rankings, he looked to be finished; Dhoni took over as captain in the midst after Ravindra Jadeja Dafabet was tried as captain.
Although the 40-year-old athlete’s back gives out sometimes, he was also having issues with his knee. But the iconic No. 7 never ceases to astound. He came roaring back in 2023, inspiring the yellow brigade to win an unprecedented fifth Indian Premier League title.
In their title defence, which begins on March 22 when they play Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dhoni, 42, will skipper Betway. It’s understandable that everyone is curious as to whether this will be his last season once more.
However, he will have more confidence given that he has surmounted every challenge to date. His level of fitness will improve after dedicating
himself to recovery after having a knee replacement. Everyone is amazed at his longevity. He will attempt to continue where CSK left off from the previous season by winning the title in Ahmedabad.
So what makes Dhoni the most effective CSK leader? It’s how Dhoni’s teams stay in the race when things aren’t going right. He possesses the ability to inspire and encourage his soldiers under difficult situations.
